Business as usual

It’s been quite difficult to write this week’s newsletter what with everything that has been going on.

I can’t tell you about last week’s competition because it got rained off. I can’t give you any news from the tour because that’s all been cancelled. We are heading into a very difficult time and we are all unsure about what is around the corner.

Whatever happens, as of Tuesday when I’m writing this email, its business as normal for us down at the golf club.

We are doing everything possible to keep you all as safe as possible. We are cleaning surfaces and door handles regularly and we are following all other government guidelines and we advise you to do the same also.

We will keep you updated to what is going to happen going forward as more information is made available to us.

It's all CODECHAOS... The shoe that is!

What we have managed to do this week is to get all the new stock out of the boxes, enter it onto the till system and displayed out on the shop floor.

The pick of the week is the new shoe from adidas. This is called Code Chaos. Back in the day golf shoes used to be a street shoe with some spikes on the bottom.

Golf shoes and in particular this one is all about performance. You walk a good few miles out there (some more than others) so you need to have a shoe that can provide you with comfort, balance and performance. This shoe does all of the above.

Starting with the sole of the shoe it has what’s called Twist Grip technology that gives 20% more traction than any other shoe they have made. The midsole has something that’s called Boost. You will see it looks and feels like foam, and this provides unbelievable cushioning properties.

I wear adidas trainers and this is where Boost technology has been taken from. Trainer-like comfort in a golf shoe. The top of the shoe is where I get excited. Looking at the shoe it has ridge-like shapes, but this is for a purpose. This is a multi-layer waterproof mesh which provides ultimate flexibility.

So, you can see there is so much technology going into a shoe now. You can play 18 holes with the confidence your feet will be nice and comfy; they will be dry, and they will look cool! Pop in and try a pair on today!

Course news

Course update

The golf course is getting back to normal now, hopefully, we have seen the worst of the weather (Please, please, please!!!).

The lads have managed to get out and do some cutting of tees, greens and some fairways. We are hopefully not too far away from getting trolleys back out there. The greens staff want to get at least 2-3 cuts of the fairways first and then we should be good to go.

To help the team continue to provide an amazing product for you to play on please help them out by playing your part. We ask you all to make sure you replace your divots and repair yours and at least one other pitch mark on the green.

Hopefully, we can get out there playing and enjoying your golf again!

Matsuyama's record round

Hideki Matsuyama shot an incredible 63 at last week’s Players Championship to equal the course record only to see the tournament cancelled due to the Coronavirus the very next day. It looks like the right decision though and now The Masters have followed suit in postponing until a later date.

But the big question is when will it be rescheduled for? In a Ryder Cup year, there is little room left for manoeuvre so will something be shunted out later in the year to make way? Only time will tell.

Sociable sessions

Playing golf with your friends is one of the best things about this sport but, if you’re tired of playing long strokeplay rounds in your fourball, why not try some of the fun formats below the next time you find yourself going out in a four?

4BBB

This game is a lot of fun and sees both team members play their own ball, with the lowest score counting at each hole. In a fourball betterball match, players receive 90% of the difference from the player with the lowest handicap.

Greensomes

Both partners tee off on each hole. You then choose the best drive and play alternate shots for the rest of the hole. Your greensomes handicap should be 60% of the lower partner’s handicap added to 40% of the higher partner’s.

Gruesomes

This is a great way to find out who your true friends are as the format is the same as Greensomes only your opposition decide which drive you play from. Although don't blame us if you all end up falling out over it.
