Greens Every year we take soil samples from a number of greens thought the golf course; 6th, 10th, 16th and putting green and commission a full soil analysis. From the results, we compare them with previous years and with the industry standard for a guideline and from this draw up target for 2018. From the results we’ve found 50% of the nutrients to be at the correct level and the rest to be slight low, with one exception being Potassium on the low side, which has now been addressed. With the greens here constructed out of sand the cation exchange capacity will always be low (the root zones ability to retain nutrients) and is something to factor in when applying fertilisers, plus factor in heavy rain fall and a large amount will simply be lost through it leaching straight out. Knowing from the results which nutrients to apply, last week (5-5-10+6% fe) was spread over the greens in the form of a granular feed and over the next number of weeks we should start to see improvement in the condition. Ongoing works thought the next number of weeks; repair a number of drainage issues, 2nd approach, 10th fairway right hand side and also the 9th approach. We’ve still a number of areas to returf too. Once the course has dried out this will be completed. On a sad note for a number of weeks someone/some people are taking upon themselves to damage the greens by driving the club into the green or simply taking divots out of them. Most of which have happened within the last couple of months. If this is seen please report and lets cut this behaviour out.
