I hope you've all had a fantastic week on and off the golf course and welcome to another exciting edition of the weekly newsletter, bringing you up-to-date with all the latest news and gossip.

EuroPro this week...

EuroPro week is here! The EuroPro is up and running and we have already had the practice and Pro-Am days. We saw some spectacular golf from the Pro-Am day with our very own members; Saj, Eddie and Jez Mellor claiming first place alongside Professional Jack Colegate. Well done team Wychwood! Close runners-up on countback were our lady members Bernie Jackson, Stephanie Edwards and Julie Bourne playing with Professional Hugo Dobson. It was a brilliant day had by all.

Wednesday was a gloomy start to the day, however after a few hours of downpour we began to see it brighten up a little, this is where Wychwood’s infamous wind came into play. This did not stop Jordan Wrisdale though, with his outstanding score of 7-under-par (65) putting Wrisdale two shots in front of the field and only one shot off the course record. Laino (Woburn Golf Club), Collins (Stoke by Nayland Golf Club), and Uzzell (Hornsea Golf Club) were his nearest competitors also posting great scores of 5-under-par (67) and will be looking to continue their fine form into the second round. We had local boy Dave Edwards representing Wychwood yesterday with a fantastic start being 1-under-par after seven looked well on his way to a good score, however as the wind picked up Dave began to drop a few shots and finished with a score of 7-over-par (79).

Please join us on the final day (Friday) where The Claret Jug will be hosting a champions after party to celebrate the week of world class golf. The after party will be FREE to come along, however we are offering a deal for the night for just £10. Tickets will be sold in the Claret Jug. For £10 you will get paella, sangria and beer will all be available for people to enjoy. There will also be a resident DJ playing all the latest music. It is sure to be a great day and evening so make sure you get involved!

Scotty Cameron and Vokey Wedges Fitting Day

On Monday, 14 August we will be having Titleist come to Wychwood Park to custom fit all putters and wedges and get the clubs that are made for you. Please call the pro shop or click here to book your fitting time. Please hurry, we only have six available slots left!

Summer Camp for the Kids

Wychwood Park will be hosting a summer camp for the kids as we introduce them to golf and the new amazing craze which is footgolf. This will be happening on selected dates so please enquire by calling 01270 820955 or click here to send us an email. This will be a great chance to get your children into a sport that could lead into a career as well as enjoying a fun filled day which gets kids learning the rules of golf to playing against each other in tournaments. For £30 per junior Wychwood Park wants to inspire young children to take up a sport which will teach them sportsmanship and great etiquette. The hours will take place from 9:00am till 3:00pm so please call to book a place with us. Dates are as follows:

• Wednesday, 30 August.

Junior Coaching Sessions

Last week we saw some new faces at the Junior Coaching Sessions. Although a lot of people are away these sessions will continue to run every Saturday so be sure to contact Ella if you are here and bring the kids along. A special mention to Harry and Zac last week. Lots of improvements to their game and it's great to see them both swinging it so well. Well done boys.

Ella is away this Saturday, so therefore there is no coaching taking place on this day, but will be back up and running the following Saturday.

Course Update

As the EuroPro commences the maintainance of the course has been looked after day and night and you can see the course taking great shape now the weather has turned. As greenstaff are working hard to make the course as pretty as possible for the players you can really see the hard work paying off.

Large areas around the greens, approaches and tees now need to be repaired. Starting with a deep verti cut, which will remove excess vegetation and thatch, then hollow tining, over seeding and top dressing. Hopefully these areas will recover in a short space of time.

The irrigation engineers have spent a number of days fault finding out on the course and have covered large sections, finding a number of electrical problems. This will be completed after the competition.

Over the last couple of weeks we have double verti cut the greens and also applied a light top dressing, giving us a more consistent surface. With the only problems being low levels of fuzz and this will be sprayed for by the end of the week.

New arrivals...

We are excited to announce that we have now got a new local pale ale on draught at the Claret Jug. This locally sourced ale is made by Tatton Brewery, home of Cheshire’s real ale. Tatton Blonde is a blonde beer, with hoppy fruity taste and a fine fruity aroma. At only £4.60 a pint and £3.68 after your discount is applied it is the perfect drink after 18 holes!

Just a reminder about Friday, the after party starts from 5:00pm and will be on till late. FREE entry along with a special offer being ran which is paella and a pint or a glass of sangria for just £10! We have some great DJs joining us to create that feel good Friday vibe!

First place - P. Robinson and R. Williamson (47 points), second place - H. Williams and A. Griffiths (45 points) and in third place - I. Brooks and P. Price (44 points).

We have a number of fantastic events coming up at the club, including:

• Thursday, 17 August - Seniors' August Open (Member - £15 and Visitor - £22) and Ladies August Open (Team - £88).
  

• Friday, 18 August - Mixed Pairs Open.
  

• Saturday, 19 August - August Open Pairs - Two day event, £10 per player for members and for guests £20 per player. This will include bacon bap and a coffee as well as presentation at the end.
  

• Sunday, 20 August - August Open Pairs (Day Two). This can be played as one day event as there will be prizes for each day and prizes for combined.
